516 Walnut St
Do you know this Catasauqua history, about “The Million Dollar Town” and the Davies & Thomas Foundry? 516 Walnut St, originally known as 510 Walnut St, was built around 1895, and potentially a few years prior, as it was said that famous Inventor, Thomas Alva Edison stayed at the home during the summer that the Catasauqua Electric Light & Power Company installed the town's first electric street lights. This home was built as a downsizing move for Mary Ann (Davies) Thomas, from the Thomas Mansion, located about two blocks away from this, her future home. Mary Ann was wife to James Thomas, then President of the Davies & Thomas Foundry, located between Race St and W Union St, in Catasauqua. The foundry would go on to build cast iron liners for many tunnels traversing the Hudson River to NYC, in the early 20th Century. In a great many cases, the cast liners are still in use today. 516 Walnut St boasts being COMPLETELY Electrically and Mechanically upgraded in 1991, immediatly after the current owners purchased the property, and the home has been additionally improved since then. In 1992, it won the Lehigh Valley Home Builders Association's 'Historic Remodeled Home of the Year' and has been lovingly cared for over the last 35 years by only the 3rd family to own it, since being built. A total of 4,810 Sq/Ft of Finished Living space, including the family/rec room, full bar, and 1/2 bath in the finished basement. Tax records state 3,645 sq/ft above ground. There are a total of 5 bedrooms, 2 Full Bathrooms and 2 Half-Bathrooms. The primary bath and primary walk-in closet are located where there was once a 6th bedroom. Cedar closets, walk-in closets, a laundry chute in the 2nd floor hall, and a servant's bell in the Primary bedroom, are a few unique features. A collection of stained glass windows, including two huge windows, each containing the Thomas Family crest, and located in the main stairway, are some additional unique features. Outside there is an in-ground salt chlorinated pool, with new chlorinator and pump and a new pool house/bar. The pool is surrounded by a huge paver patio area and is completely fenced. Oversized Two-Car garage has been upgraded to support an electric car charging station w/ its own 200amp electric service. In the house, the Heating system (Boiler) is brand new as of 2026, Outside, the brick work was repointed in 2024, and new front sidewalk and concrete driveway in 2023. Central Air-conditioning is new in 2020, electric water heater is new in 2020, Primary Bathroom was carefully remodeled, preserving a wall of original tile, in 2021. The primary bathroom has plumbing ready for a clawfoot soaking tub next to the shower. Generally, the living space is oversized, but quite practical for the age and sq/ft of the home.
